After consulting with a few friends in the field, I suggested he make a few changes. Less protein and more carbohydrates. Instead of 5 pounds of protein a week, shoot for about 4 pounds a month with continued physical activity.
I did not mention anything to him about the Starter Routine page on KyleKeech.org yet. Hopefully he finds that and finds it useful.
